Editorial Standards

Trendshare publishes educational articles about investing and a rules-based analysis of public stocks. Because this is information about your money, you should know exactly who produces it, how, and where its limits are. This page says so plainly, including the parts that are less impressive than a big masthead.

Who writes Trendshare

Articles are written under the pen name Ethan Mercer. It is a pen name, and we say so on the author page. One person writes, edits, and is responsible for every article. That person is a working software and financial-systems professional, not a registered investment adviser, broker, CFA, CFP, or CPA, and does not claim to be any of those.

There is no outside expert review board. We would rather tell you that than imply otherwise. What we offer instead is a method you can check yourself: every number should be traceable to a source, and every claim should be something you can verify without taking our word for it.

Trendshare is operated by Big Blue Marble, LLC. The business, mailing address, and contact details are on the About page.

What we write, and what we do not

We explain concepts (what a margin of safety is, how dividend yield works, what a stop-loss order does) and show worked examples with real numbers. We do not tell you what to buy, we do not know your finances, and nothing here is personal financial, tax, or legal advice. Read the full disclaimer before acting on anything.

The stock pages are produced by the same published algorithm for every company, using cash flow figures from SEC 10-K and 10-Q filings. A human does not hand-pick, rank, or promote individual stocks. The method is described in our financial guidelines.

How articles are sourced

Here is what we aim for in every article:

  • Facts, figures, rates, and rules come from primary or authoritative sources where they exist: SEC filings, FINRA and Investor.gov guidance, the Federal Reserve, the IRS, index providers, and fund company research.
  • Where we calculate something ourselves, we show the inputs and the arithmetic so you can reproduce it.
  • Examples use real companies and real filings where possible, and hypothetical numbers are labeled as hypothetical.
  • Statements of opinion are written as opinion, with the reasoning shown.

We should be candid: Trendshare has more than a decade of articles, and older ones do not all meet this standard yet. Some are short, some cite few outside sources, and some contain examples that have aged. We are working through them, and the update date on each article shows when it was last changed. If an older article is thin, treat it as a starting point and check the primary sources.

Use of AI tools

We use AI tools to help research, outline, draft, and check articles and the code behind this site. A human reads, edits, and takes responsibility for everything that is published. AI tools are not an authority we cite, and they do not replace verifying a figure against its source.

Updates and corrections

Each article shows an "Updated" date, which reflects when the article was last changed. That includes small fixes as well as substantive rewrites, so a recent date does not by itself mean the whole piece was re-researched.

If you find an error, an outdated figure, or an unclear explanation, email editorial@trendshare.org and say which article and what you found. Factual corrections are made as soon as we can verify them.

How Trendshare makes money, and what it does not influence

Trendshare is supported by advertising and by affiliate links. Specifically:

  • Many articles link to books on Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, Trendshare earns from qualifying purchases made through those links. Amazon links are affiliate links even where an individual article does not say so next to the link.
  • Some articles link to financial services, such as crypto exchanges, through referral or affiliate links. These articles carry a disclosure near the top of the page.
  • Pages show ads from Google AdSense.

We are adding a disclosure to every article that contains affiliate links. Until that is complete, treat any link to Amazon or to a service sign-up page as potentially earning us a commission.

Advertising and affiliate relationships do not decide which stocks are analyzed, how they are scored, or what an article concludes. The stock analysis tools use a fixed method and take no payment to change a result.

What we do not do

  • We do not give personalized advice or manage money.
  • We do not accept payment for favorable coverage of a stock, fund, or product.
  • We do not predict where the market or any stock will go.
  • We do not claim credentials we do not hold.
